The Discipline
What is the work and discipline of the architect? Throughout our trajectory as students and architects every day we learn something new, our knowledge consist of a wealth of disciplines which require time, effort and motivation to be learned. These disciplines are based on concepts like project, urban planning, construction, facilities, sociocultural aspects... All these skills come together to create the figure of the architect which has a different vision from the rest of the world. An architect must be able to project and create concepts able to participate in society, bring benefits to this and be economically and technically viable. For this will be necessary that our social and technical knowledge must be enough to raise a good architecture proper to time and space.
So there cannot exist a project without construction at the same time the construction cannot exist without project. Architecture cannot be born from nothing, but must be born of knowledge, a cumulative knowledge that encompasses the past, reflected in the present and lives in future. Our job is not to work only in space but also the variable of time that influences our decisions, so we can only understand the present if we understand the past and only then we can move forward.
