URBANISM

Urbanism is a similar discipline to projects because it also involves all the disciplines, but this time at a higher scale than the previous. In this subject we study the theoretical and practical of the growth of cities. This allows to us to develop a large urban plans and at the same time be aware that small decisions can also have consequences on the upper scale .

Urban Design Horta

This consisted in one of the first urban projects in which we make an approach to the composition of large urban spaces at critical points of the city. The first big dilemma we faced was: How far can you get a good urban space taking advantage the existing for promote sustainable urban development that allows the cities grow and expand healthily?

In this project we never develop the architecture but we understood what effect have this in urbanism.

MPrat del Llobregat Beach

In this second exercise, we left the city to try to understand how the urban planning could also affect rural areas. We had to respect the existing. Therefore our work was like a surgery operation, from which raises a set of paths constructed by wooden walkways. These were distributed at two levels, one on the coast and the other in the forest where you find the lookouts. This exercise help us to understand how sometimes is better do nothing than act too much.

Mataró New District

Unlike the previous exercise in this project we develop a concept of urbanism that was based on the reconstruction of an entire neighborhood in Mataró. In this case the architecture was the most important element to build urban space, because without it would not be possible. The project began with a study of the environment and ended in the development of volumetric and functional concept of architecture, understood as a city.

Urban Design Can Serra

This project starts of the same ideas as the previous one, except that in this we had to face an additional problem, topography. So the project consisted how to create a new neighborhood making the topography an element not negative. Needless to say that in this project we developed the architecture and detail, but we never got to deepen to the construction and facilities.

Bon Pastor New District

This exercise can be considerate the most complicated, because we work in an extensive area. Unlike the previous we not started from a defined area, so this was divided into two parts. A first in which we work on an extensive analysis that allowed to each student identify problems and critical points of the existing planning and a second in which each developed a proposal influenced by their personal conclusions. So the project consisted in give reply a question that was made by students.
